THE THIEF OF BAGDAD (1924)
Art director William Cameron Menzies, who later designed Gone with the Wind, created magic carpets, a flying horse, and other spectacular effects that are still incredible by today’s standards. As the thief, Douglas Fairbanks brings his own magic to the screen, including performing his own gymnastic stunts, all to save the princess.

THE CAT AND THE CANARY (1927)
This was the first of four movies based on Frank Willard’s popular Broadway play.  According to the will, heirs must spend the night in a creepy mansion, where people begin to die and anyone could be guilty.  An early Halloween treat, and the first of many “haunted house” horror films.
