The 2017 Season
March 17-18 at 8:00: Detectives Holmes and Carter ELTC’s popular vintage-radio style production with two mysteries and the cast-of-six going from Sherlock Holmes’ Victorian England, to Nick Carter’s Manhattan during World War II in Adventure of the Red-Headed League and The Voice of Crime.
June 14-July 22 at 8:30 (Wed.-Sat.): Will Rogers’ U.S.A. a one-man show about the famous humorist, cowboy, philosopher, lecturer, radio and stage performer, and humanitarian, Will Rogers (1879-1935). Taking on the role is Tom Byrn who recently received rave reviews for his performance in ELTC’s Mr. Lincoln. Conceived and produced by George Spota in 1970, James Whitmore originally play the role. Rogers’ observations during his lifetime about politics and daily life are still relevant.
July 26-Sept. 2 at 8:00 (Wed.-Sat.): Ah, Wilderness!, Eugene O’Neill’s only comedy. Taking place during the July 4th weekend in 1906 in a small Connecticut town, it offers a gentle portrait of family values, teenage growing pains, and young love. When it premiered on Broadway in 1933, George M. Cohan portrayed Nat Miller, the father. When it went on the road, Will Rogers took on the role.
Sept. 20-Oct. 14 at 8:00 (Wed.-Sat. except no show on Wed. Oct 4 and a show on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 7:30; and a 2:00 matinee on Wed. Oct. 11 with no evening performance.) A Year in the Trenches, a world premiere written by James Rana to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entering World War I. The creation of this script received partial funding from the NJ Theatre Alliance, the NJ State Council on the Arts, and the NJ Historical Commission.
Nov. 3-4 at 8:00: Sherlock Holmes' Adventure of the Speckled Band, our vintage radio-style show written by Craig Wickman, with a cast of six and live sound effects and commercials, coincides with Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts and Humanities’ Sherlock Holmes Weekends in November and March. In October, 1930, the Sherlock Holmes radio series began with The Speckled Band, adapted by Edith Meiser, who proposed the Holmes radio series to NBC. It lasted for 20 years,
Nov. 24, 25, Dec. 3, 7, 8, 9 at 8:00, with 2:00 matinees on Saturday Dec. 9 and 16: Louisa May Alcott’s Christmas, based on the opening chapters of Little Women and other writings by LMA, adapted for and performed in storytelling fashion by Gayle Stahlhuth.
